Happy Mother’s Day!
I’m aware that while all of you reading this aren’t necessarily mothers, one thing that we all have in common is that we each have a mother. And we each had a unique relationship with our mother. Many of us didn’t experience the relationship we would have wanted to have with our mom and consequently, we’ve internalized many of our unresolved childhood voices.
When my son was born, my spiritual teacher, Michael Beckwith shared with me what is still today, the best definition I’ve ever heard of a mother. He said that a mother is one who holds the highest vision of their child.
“One who holds the highest vision of their child.”
Did you perceive that someone was holding the highest vision of you as a child? What might your life have looked like if they had?
What I’ve come to know is that the only way that I can hold the highest vision for my son – or anyone or anything else – is to hold the highest vision of MYSELF first.
Do you believe your mother – or caregiver(s) held the highest vision of themselves? If not, how might that have made a difference in their life and consequently, in yours?
I believe the best gift you can give yourself this Mother’s Day is to make peace with any unresolved issues from your own childhood and specifically with your mother.
When you make peace with your mother, you’ll then release the internalized voices that are keeping you mired in your past.
When you make peace with your mother, you’ll then release the internalized voices that are keeping you from holding the highest vision of yourself.
Imagine holding the highest vision of YOURSELF!
This is important no matter who you are or where you find yourself in life because we are all mothering someone or something. When you hold the highest vision of yourself, you’ll begin to hold the highest vision of your spouse, your significant other, a project you’re working on, your career, your finances, your health.
If you have children, then holding this highest vision of YOURSELF is imperative. Our children are longing for us to see the best in them, to hold the highest vision of them. Did you long for someone to hold the highest vision of you? Imagine the gift you give your children when you do.
