Ralph Waldo Emerson so wisely said, “Who you are thunders so loudly, I can’t hear a word you say.”
Meaning, that we all carry an energy that is more powerful than the words that we speak. Without uttering a word, those around us can…
“feel” us. They know whether we’re upset, light hearted, heavy hearted, angry, calm, joyful or blissed out!
I learned this first hand when I became a mom. By the time I had my son, I’d been deeply immersed on a spiritual path for many years. I’d been meditating since I was sixteen. When I became a mom, I thought, “I’ve got this. No problem” Ha! Motherhood was requiring much more from me than I could possibly have imagined!
What I didn’t know at time is that our inner climate becomes the overarching climate in our children’s lives. This is the same for any relationship. People respond to our energy, much more than our words. As the daily grind of motherhood set in, I found myself exhausted, overwhelmed and depleted. I began to realize that my energy, mood, impatience, and vulnerability came spewing out all over my son – the last person on earth who deserved this out pouring of toxic energy.
That’s when Self Care became non negotiable for me. In order for me to be the mother that I longed to be, and more importantly, the mother my son needed me to be, Self Care moved from the bottom of my list to the number 1 spot. I learned that I can only give to someone else from the energy that lives within me. If impatient energy lives within me, impatient energy is what I’ll give. When vitality, fulfillment and joy lives within me, my child is the recipient of this, instead!
So, I set a course to learn to take care of my exhaustion, overwhelm and most of all, my emotional triggers.
My life changed from this moment forward. I transformed myself by taking care of myself!
- Have you found yourself impatient?
- Have you found yourself reactive?
- Have you found yourself distracted?
If so, your Spirit is calling out to you. It’s telling you that It needs your Presence, attention and nourishment.
Ask yourself, right now,
- what do you need to feel nourished?
- What can you provide for yourself in this moment to feel nourished?
- What do you need to feel inspired today?
Make a commitment to provide that for yourself – today!
When you begin to nourish your Spirit on a daily basis, you begin to tap into a Presence that is higher than the human situations around you, especially where your children are concerned. When you nourish your Spirit on a daily basis, you transform and you bring a higher vibration into the situations with your children.
You come to their tantrums and YOU are different. You come to their needs and YOU are different. You come to their resistance and YOU are different. YOU are calm, YOU are centered. YOU are connected.
When our children are enveloped in our own higher energy, they can relax and drop their reactivity. When we change, our own inner climate creates the environment for them to flourish!
And as Emerson said, “Who you are thunders so loudly, I can’t hear a word you say.”
Your transformation begins when you consciously change your motherhood paradigm from Self Sacrifice to Self Care.
