Depending upon your individual life situation, this time of year can be filled with family and friends or it can be stressful and lonely with a myriad of emotions.
Regardless of your experience, though, the last week of the year can also be the most powerful week of the year. People ask me all of the time how I live such a fulfilled life. I’d like to share with you a powerful practice that I do every year at this time.
This is the perfect time of year to become reflective. Look back over your year and let go of that which you don’t want to carry into your new year, both in consciousness and in your physical life. Clearing out and letting go is a powerful practice. Clear out everything from a drawer or a closet to a cleanse or a habit.
It is also the perfect time of year to consciously create your year ahead. Most individuals set outer goals like losing weight, making more money or getting married and then get discouraged if those particular goals aren’t “happening”. Setting outer goals is fine, but calling forth the inner qualities that those goals represent to you is much more effective. For example, if getting married is really about having more intimacy in your life, choosing the quality of intimacy is empowering because you can create intimacy in your current life with friendships, business partnerships, co workers, etc. You can experience the quality of intimacy everyday and the outer form of an intimate relationship will come forth out of the life that you are already living. The outer form always matches our inner state. Strive to create a fulfilling inner state of consciousness because the outer form always follows.
Here is a simple 3 step process you can practice to create the best year of your life!
1. REFLECT: Become still and look back over your year. Become grateful for that which is working well in your life. Write out a list of things that you are grateful for and acknowledge yourself for. There is nothing more powerful to attract more good into our lives than gratitude, acknowledgment and appreciation. What we appreciate, appreciates in our life.
2. RELEASE: Let go of any habit, way of thinking, judging yourself or your life that weighs you down. Forgive yourself, anyone, anything in your life that you are carrying. Unforgiveness is the heaviest burden we carry in life. Write a venting letter and tear it up. Write a forgiveness letter and keep it. Forgiveness clears your heart. Clear out your outer environment. Clearing your outer life clears your mental life. There is nothing more potent than a pure mind and heart.
3. RECEIVE: What is calling you this year? Listen to the deeper calling within you. There is something that is ready to be more fully expressed as your life. There is something specific that is ready to be birthed within you. Perhaps it is a specific quality, a mantra, a theme for the year. You are being called to live full out, to shine, to share your gifts more fully, more unabashedly. You are here to thrive in a particular way this year. 2014 is your year to shine. Your time is now. Intend it, commit to it, dedicate your life to living it this year.
