For those of you who don’t know, I just completed my first book, “The Motherhood Evolution: How Thriving Mothers Raise Thriving Children” being released on Tues. Sept 27th!!
Wow. I set out to write a transformational book for Mothers and who knew that I, myself, would transform to such a degree in the process! I learned so many things along the way. Whether you’re birthing a project at work, a relationship, a career change or simply intending to live your best life daily, may my learnings save you some time along the way and inspire you to push yourself beyond what you think you’re capable of in your life!
1. IT TAKES COURAGE
It was almost ten years ago. I was at lunch with two friends talking about my parenting philosophy to my then four year old son. “I don’t put my son first,” I shared with my friends. I actually consider my son, third on my list, so to speak. My own Spiritual life is first, my relationship with my husband second. By putting my son under two thriving relationships, he’s actually “first” because he receives from our overflow. One of my girlfriends immediately exclaimed, “You must write a book about this”.
It’s taken me ten years to find the courage to tell mothers in print that putting themselves first is the BEST thing you can do for your children. I’ve worked with mothers for almost eighteen years and I’ve proven out this theory over and over again. When mothers thrive, your children thrive as well.
This is true with any of our relationships. When we thrive, our relationships thrive as well.
2. PERFECTIONISM AND EXCELLENCE CAN NOT CO EXIST
Whenever I found myself procrastinating or feeling stuck, I realized that I was intimidated by the written word … putting something down in writing felt so final … the potential flaws seemed so looming.
When I became more interested in excellence than perfection, the flood gates opened up and the book was given to me. I simply took dictation.
3. WALK MY TALK
With the book officially launching on Sept. 27th, there’s so much “to do”. Yet, I stand anchored in my commitment that the better I care for myself during this process, the greater intimacy and connection I continue to experience with my husband and son and the greater success I have with all things, “The Motherhood Evolution” related.
The better I care for myself, the more present I am for this experience.
4. GRATITUDE IS THE GRANDFATHER OF ALL SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
The amount of support I’m receiving is overwhelming. I am deeply grateful. I am so appreciative for every friend and for every client who is stepping forward to assist me. It is stretching my receiving muscle to no end.
THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!
May you all stretch your receiving muscles. It’s the most vulnerable and yet, intimacy inducing practice you will embark upon!
