This past week, I was a bit under the weather. Nothing I couldn’t power through. However, I know by now that had I powered through, I would have paid a price, if only a subtle one.
My son would have noticed the tone of my voice. My husband would have definitely noticed the tone of my voice! I’d have been impatient – and taken it out on those around me. The quality of my relationships with the two closest people to me would have suffered.
Sometimes, even when we know what’s best for us, it can still be so challenging to give ourselves permission to unplug from our busy lives and plug into the things that truly nourish our Spirit and “light us up” from the inside.
I’m finally learning to receive. Not one of my strong suits, so when I did, it felt particularly rewarding. I stayed home from a party that I was really looking forward to attending because I knew my body just wanted to be horizontal and rest. I went to sleep early. I didn’t work out (huge!). My son ate more cereal than I care to admit! I woke up today feeling like myself again.
Self-Care is THE most under rated and under valued transformational technology available to us. If there is something – even something small and subtle – calling you to nourish your Spirit, I promise you, that if you do, you will feel enlivened and invigorated, ready to live the life you have come here to live.
