When my friend asked me if I would take care of her animals and plants while her family was away on vacation, I knew right away that I wanted to give back to the amazing family who gives so much to others. I knew I was essentially committing to caring for 2 homes for a week.
To make it work for me, I decided to create a retreat for myself while at her house. So, for the last week, I have immersed myself in books that I have been meaning to read on subjects like the spiritual aspects of mothering, the enneagram, Hazrat Inayat Khan and Kabir. In the midst of our last week of summer break, with boys swimming and running around, inside of myself I’ve been quiet, introspective and contemplative. The more activity there was around me, the more still I became inwardly.
What I found was that I became very present to one precious moment after another. “Thy Grace is my Sufficiency” played over and over like a mantra in my heart. All is well with my soul. Whether it is a moment, a day or a week, personal retreat time is priceless.
What is your retreat of choice?
