First of all, please forgive in advance, the intense nature of this blog!
On Thursday night three weeks ago, my sister went to sleep and didn’t wake up on Friday morning. She passed over quietly, suddenly and unexpectedly.
The moment I heard about this on Friday, my life too, changed forever.
Of the many beautiful calls and conversations of support I received, one of my clients remarked to me that I seem to live my life handling all of the small waves so that I’m more graciously able to handle the big waves as they come up.
I want to implore you to take care of the small waves in your life right now. Perhaps there’s an individual in your life you are at odds with, perhaps there’s someone you feel has betrayed you, abandoned you, done you wrong. Perhaps there’s a dream you’ve been pushing to the back burner of your life, perhaps a relationship.
Especially where our children and immediate family is concerned, there’s no one who can trigger us like these close intimate relationships. There’s also no one who can be the catalyst for more profound transformation than our children and immediate family members.
Perhaps you feel underwater with large waves of disconnected relationships crashing over you. Just seek to ride one small wave at a time. I’m not saying any of this is easy. I’m not saying that any of this is on your “to do” list today. I’m just saying that you won’t regret learning to ride the small waves.
The best gift you could give yourself, your children or another is to take some quiet time and become willing to release yourself of any grips of limitation and judgment you’ve placed on yourself, your child or another. I’m not saying to condone any inexcusable behaviors. I’m suggesting you open your own heart to any places that might be closed off, armored and protected. Release yourself from any ways that you have closed your own heart.
Release yourself and others from the toxic energy of self-judgment. Seek daily to liberate yourself into the purifying waters of self-forgiveness, one small wave at a time.
Amidst the grief of my sister’s passing has emerged an URGENCY within me – an urgency for even more intimacy with my husband, son, friends and clients – an urgency not to play small, an urgency not to hold back my gifts, an urgency not to go to sleep upset, an urgency to get my message of self-care and thriving out to the world FULL ON AND FULL OUT – NO HOLDING BACK …. and an URGENCY to bloom, to flourish, to blossom and grow beyond who I know myself to be.
For any of you seeking closer, more connected relationships with your children, significant other, your gifts, your purpose, your dharma …. may you begin by bringing peace, forgiveness and nourishment to your own heart and life … and then pour that love into that which is important to you …. and may you all feel the URGENCY!
