I’ve been writing about RELATIONSHIPS these past few weeks. There’s nothing I want more for you than intimacy and deep connection in all of your relationships.
Besides “cleaning my own side of the street” and “appreciation, appreciation and more appreciation” that I wrote about in last week’s newsletter, here is another practice that has assisted me to achieve real, authentic, connected relationships in my life and in the lives of my clients.
-
PAUSE in order to make your own internal connection
This is the most challenging practice to implement, but the most transformative! Becoming aware of when you just begin to become reactive, I promise, will transform your relationships!
Emotions might begin to surge through your own body. You might want to point the finger at the other person. Your survival self will tell you it IS their fault … because … it’s so challenging to feel that surge of emotion in our own bodies, so we want it to dissipate by projecting it outward.
The surge of energy that you feel within is unprocessed childhood trauma or unmet childhood needs.
This is why it’s practically impossible to try to work something out with another when you’re triggered. When you can learn to sit with your own feelings and make the connection back to that unprocessed trauma or unmet childhood needs, you’ll no longer feel the need to point to the other person.
Making the connection back to something in our past, it puts us in a position to meet our own needs.
Rarely, after meeting our own needs, do we need to go back to the other person.
However, when you do feel the need to communicate to the other person, it’s important to express yourself effectively. I’ll complete this Relationship Series next week with the last skill around self expression.
Absolutely, transforming your relationships will transform the quality of your life. Are you a coach, parent, educator or conscious business leader interested in assisting others to create more intimate relationships in their lives? Do you desire to master working with clients, students, your children, and really, everyone, on the Spiritual, Emotional and experiential levels?
To assist others to create real experiences of true healing, transformation, connection and intimacy in their relationships – and to make a GREAT living doing it?
Culture teaches us to avoid PAIN, to avoid uncomfortable emotions, leaving us with unprocessed and unhealed trauma. We don’t know how to work with it within ourselves, so we don’t know how to effect TRUE and lasting healing for our clients, students and children.
As we learn to heal the very places within us that we resist the MOST, our work with our clients DRAMATICALLY deepens, our relationships with our children and others DRAMATICALLY deepens, our SUCCESS both personally and professionally DRAMATICALLY expands.
